The scammer withdrew $7.9 million worth of ether from the HTX hot wallet, but he was immediately found out. Now he has a week to get it all back
On Sunday, September 24, hackers broke into the hot wallet of cryptocurrency exchange HTX. This is reported by specialists of the crypto security firm Cyver Alerts. Hackers managed to steal 5,000 ETH – almost $8 million at the current exchange rate.

The company’s system detected suspicious transactions involving the addresses of Huobi Global and HTX Global. Experts managed to identify the attacker’s wallet. Now there are almost 4,000 ETH on it. A thousand coins he transferred to another address almost immediately after the hack.
Later, the exchange confirmed the hack and said it had contacted the hacker via Etherscan. Representatives of the platform offered the attacker a reward of 5% of the stolen amount if he returned the money voluntarily. He was given seven days to think about it, until October 2, 2023.
If the hacker does not return the stolen goods during this time, the exchange will turn to law enforcement authorities.
